Couple being treated for minor smoke inhalation after 3-alarm Etobicoke fire

An elderly couple is being treated for minor smoke inhalation in hospital after an early morning three-alarm fire in Etobicoke.

The fire broke out at the back of a home on a deck on North Heights Drive, near Kipling and Eglinton avenues, just after 4 a.m. on Monday.

The couple were able to walk to the ambulance, escorted by emergency crews.

The fire is now out, but crews continue to douse hotspots.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has not been called in.

Reports from the scene indicate the fire may have started from some sort of heater in a sunroom that has been installed at the back of the home. Damage is estimated at around $75,000.

Smoke detectors were also working in the home.
