Thousands march in Toronto for International Women’s Day

Thousands gathered in Toronto on Saturday day to mark International Women’s Day.

Men, women and children took part in the annual march to raise awareness for women’s rights.

A rally was held at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at Bloor and St. George streets before participants took to the streets around 1 p.m. The march wrapped up on the Ryerson University campus.

The main themes of this year’s march were fighting for the rights of aboriginal women and raising awareness about sexual violence and racial discrimination.

International Women’s Day is on Sunday and has been celebrated for more than 100 years. Toronto’s march is the largest in North America.
