IN PHOTOS: Toronto’s Union Station renovation complete

A milestone is being celebrating at Union Station — the renovations are finally complete, just in time for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

Several dignitaries will be on-hand for the official unveiling on Thursday afternoon, including TTC CEO Andy Byford and Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver.

The project involving more than $160 million in upgrades started in May of 2011, and the work included building a new platform to increase the station’s capacity.

One of the station’s features is the 62,000-square-foot York Street GO Transit concourse, which opened in April, doubling the size of the original Bay Street terminal.

The station also houses an art installation at track level by Toronto artist Stuart Reid, called called Zones of Immersion. It involves 160 panels around seven-feet tall, and more than 500 sheets of glass were involved in creating the pieces.
