Toronto police issued nearly 700 tickets, towed 100 vehicles during tag and tow blitz

If you thought Mayor John Tory and Toronto police were bluffing when they threatened to crack down on people who park illegally during rush hour, you may be one of hundreds dipping into your pocket to pay for that error in judgement.

The second “tag-and-tow” blitz of the year on Monday eclipsed the first one in January, with 672 parking tags issues, and 100 vehicles towed, The Toronto Sun reports.

The tag and tow blitz day in January resulted in 592 tickets, with 76 vehicles towed.

“We’re having a blitz to remind people your behaviour has to change permanently, not for a couple of weeks,” Tory said on Monday morning.

Tory campaigned to “get Toronto moving” and has stressed time and time again that relieving traffic congestion is at the top of his priorities.

A $150 fine applies for standing, stopping or parking illegally on rush-hour roads between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Drivers whose vehicles are towed away will also face a towing fee of $200 and daily storage of $80.
