Trending: Toronto’s new signature drink is pretty accurate

By News Staff

So, what does Toronto taste like?

Apparently it’s a little sour. And has lots of ginger.

At least that’s what a panel of judges determined when they awarded Clair Freel’s ‘The Wise Guy’ top honours in the Toronto Winning Ways competition.

As reported in Metro News, The Wise Guy best reflects what makes the city a great place to live, work and play.

“I’m a whisky girl,” Freel told Metro. “I wanted to play on the mojito flare and come up with a drink that’s local, foreign, exotic and wonderful.”

The Wise Guy will be available at the Chefs’ House at King and Sherbourne next week, and will debut at the Toronto Region Board of Trade gala on Jan. 18.

As connoisseurs of fine alcoholic beverages, we couldn’t wait. So we let Bradley MacInnis at Sabai Sabai mix a few for us to sample.

The result? A little sour. But definitely unique. It has an interesting mix of a bunch of different flavours.

Actually, that might describe Toronto pretty accurately.

The Toronto Wise Guy:

– 1.5 ounces of Wiser’s whisky

– 2 ounces of ginger ale

– Half a teaspoon of minced ginger

– 1.5 ounces of lime juice

– 3 stems of fresh mint

Add ice to the mixture and shake. Strain it over ice into a whisky tumbler, top up with ginger ale and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint or a lime wedge.
