Surveillance video released of missing Markham woman

By News Staff

York regional police have released surveillance video of a Markham woman who has been missing for six days.

They also say they are now looking in ponds near Bur Oak Secondary School for any sign on Taneesha Brown.

Brown, 25, was last seen near McCowan Road and Castlemore Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

That same night, there was an event at the high school. In surveillance video obtained from the school, Brown is seen speaking with a man around 10:48 p.m. Police believe the man was attending the event.

He is not a suspect, police say, but a witness who spoke to Brown before she walked away. Brown headed south towards 16th Avenue after their conversation, police say.

The school is located near several ponds. Officers will be using a remotely-operated vehicle to check areas of open water in the partially frozen ponds.

Last week, Brown’s family and investigators said they were especially concerned as she is not dressed for the weather.

Brown is black, five-feet-five-inches tall and 122 pounds. She has long black hair with pink streaks in it.

Police said she was last seen wearing a traditional Muslim outfit including a white, knee-length dashiki, white pants and a white hijab on her head. She was also carrying a black purse.
