Toronto man turns himself in after warrant for first-degree murder

A Toronto man has turned himself into police after he was wanted for the first-degree murder an elderly man in north Toronto on Friday.

Officers arrived on scene near Playfair Avenue and Caledonia Road around 5 p.m. to find a man, believed to be in his 80s, with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics said the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene after they tried to revive him.

“Last night just before midnight Domenico Scopelliti, 51 years old of Toronto, heard his name on 680 NEWS in relation to this incident and turned himself into 12 Division homicide investigators,” Constable Craig Brister told 680 NEWS.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, said police.

Multiple heavily armed officers surrounded the home as the investigation is on-going.

Officers said the suspect was armed and dangerous and they believed he was carrying a rifle.

Domenico Scopelliti, 51, of Toronto, has been identified as the suspect in this homicide and is wanted for first-degree murder.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time and it is unclear if they suspect and victim are known to each other.
