Police canvas Lawrence Heights after five shootings in five weeks

By News Staff

Toronto police officers are going door-to-door in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood after the community suffered five shootings in five weeks.

Officers began canvassing the neighbourhood on Saturday, giving residents safety tips and Crimestoppers information.

“We’re looking for witnesses, we’re looking for anyone that has any information that can help lead us to any of these suspects,” Det. Sgt. Sean Brosnan told 680 NEWS.

“There’s a certain amount of fear, of course, in the neighbourhood, because [the shootings] are very close in proximity, and they seem somewhat random.”

Police have set up a direct line to reach an investigator at 32 Division: 416-808-3204.

Officials from Toronto Community Housing will also be part of the canvas, as the area is in the midst of a revitalisation.

The first shooting took place on Dec. 22, 2015. A man was shot in the leg on Bagot Court.

The next month, there was a shooting on Neptune Drive on Jan. 6.

On Jan. 13, a man was taken to hospital after he was shot in the foot. That same day, in broad daylight, people in two different cars fired at each other near Lawrence Avenue and Allen Road

Most recently, four people were shot while they sat in a parked car near Lawrence and the Allen on Jan. 21.
