Trending: Twitter is reportedly changing its timeline and the internet is livid

There’s nothing like change to draw the absolute ire of the internet.

On Friday night Buzzfeed reported that as early as next week Twitter will be changing its timeline format from reverse chronological order to algorithmic.

This means that instead of seeing a free flow of information, Twitter timelines will now be filled with content the social media giant thinks you want to see – similar to the way Facebook reorganized their newsfeed.

It’s a format Twitter already practices, in part, in its search field.

Almost instantly the internet began to lose its mind.

#RIPTwitter skyrocketed to the top of Twitter’s trending list with many users vowing this was the end of the company.

Buzzfeed reports the company has been testing the algorithmic timeline with a small group of users.

This is the second uproar from Twitter users this year. Last month talk of Twitter eliminating its 140 character limit had many questioning the direction the company was taking.

Twitter has not commented on the reported change.
