Dunbarton HS receives online threat days after school stabbing

By News Staff

Just days after a teenage girl allegedly went on a stabbing rampage at a Pickering area high school, Durham regional police returned to Dunbarton High School after threats were posted online.

The threat was made against the school on social media Friday morning. Police wouldn’t say what kind of threat was made but posts on social media indicated that it was a threat of gun violence.

There were reports that armed officers walked the hallways of the school investigating the threat.

St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, a neighbouring school, was briefly placed in hold and secure as a precaution.

Police later confirmed that the threat made against the school was not real.

On Tuesday a 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, walked into Dunbarton High School and allegedly stabbed students and staff with two knives she brought with her.

She has been charged with six counts of assault causing bodily harm, seven counts of assault with a weapon, possession of dangerous weapons and assault.

Prior to the attack, the girl posted a number of messages on a social media site her plans to commit a school stabbing, a desire to commit suicide, her struggles with sexuality and about being bullied. The posts have since been removed from the site.
