Driver arrested after vehicle crashes into McCowan Road bridge

By News Staff

Four people were taken to hospital and the driver is in custody after a vehicle collided into a bridge in Scarborough on Sunday.

Officers responded to the scene at McCowan Road and Progress Avenue around 8:40 p.m.

The driver hit the bridge and the vehicle then rolled into a glass pedestrian tunnel. The injured people were inside the vehicle, not the tunnel.

Paramedics said the injuries are not life-threatening.

Progress was closed in both directions for the investigation and reopened early on Monday morning.

The driver has not yet been charged but is being investigated for impaired driving.
