Person dies while in custody of Canadian Border Services Agency

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has confirmed that a person died while in detention Monday.
The CBSA will not identify the victim, nor the circumstances that led to his or her death.
In a release Tuesday, the agency said the person was in the care of the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
The agency said it is reviewing the circumstances of the death and has alerted the appropriate authorities.
According to the CBSA, individuals can be arrested or detained under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act if they believe the person poses a danger to the public, is unlikely to appear for an examination or admissibility hearing, cannot prove their identity or is part of an irregular arrival as designated by the Minister of Public Safety.
Immigration law allows for the arrest and detention of foreign nationals without a warrant.
