A dashcam video captured an out-of-control Toronto driver on Sunday and that driver was later arrested, and charged with impaired driving.
He caused quite a scare for a woman and her passenger as they travelled along Eglinton Avenue near Don Mills Road.
“Oh my god,” the woman can be heard saying.
“What?,” her passenger asks, unaware of what’s going on.
When he sees what she saw — a car travelling from the lane, onto the sidewalk and along the guardrail before knocking into two road pylons and sending a traffic sign flying into the sky — he springs into action.
“Holy s**t! Hold on, let me call 911,” he said.
As he does, she reads out the licence plate.
“He just kept driving,” she says, shocked. But there’s another shock coming.
As the man is on the phone with 911, the out-of-control driver gets closer and closer to the intersection of Eglinton and Don Mills. Then, it happens: he crashes into another car that was waiting to turn right.
“He’s about to smash into another car,” the man says, his voice rising as he watches it happen in front of his eyes.
“Oh my god. Oh my god … you gotta get an ambulance here right away.”
The entire ordeal was posted online. The video can be seen here, or watch it below. Viewer discretion is advised.
CityNews investigated and has since learned that the driver was arrested. He has been identified as 63-year-old Mohammad Daghar.
Daghar was charged with over 80 (having a blood alcohol concentration of over 80mg per 100ml). The injuries are not serious.
The man who called 911 wrote about the crash on Reddit. He said he and the woman got out of their car to help, and waited until police and paramedics arrived. By that time, he said, the driver left the scene on foot. However, he didn’t get far, and was taken into custody.
