Pickering man under arrest for second degree murder of pregnant wife

By News Staff

A Pickering man wanted in the death of his wife, who was nine months pregnant, is under arrest.

Durham police say Nicholas Tyler Baig, 25, was apprehended at a home in Markham late Saturday night.

Police were called to a home on Winville Road in Pickering around 9:45 p.m. Friday night where they discovered the body of Arianna Goberdhan, 27, of Ajax who had “obvious signs of trauma.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the baby did not survive.

Baig is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Sunday morning on a charge of second degree murder.

At this time, police do not know if Baig will also face charges in the death of the unborn child, saying that is an issue for the prosecutor to consider.
