Two people have been transported by air ambulance following a serious head-on crash on Highway 9 and the 10th Sideroad near Tottenham.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday night when a pickup truck travelling on Highway 9 crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck another pickup truck head-on.
The driver and passenger in the pickup that crossed over had to be airlifted by Ornge ambulance to trauma centres in Toronto, one of them suffering life-threatening injuries. Two other occupants of the vehicle were taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Two occupants in the pickup that was struck were also taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, striking debris from the initial head-on accident. No one in that vehicle suffered any injuries.
The circumstances as to why one vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic is still under investigation.
