Day Two: Canada’s role in the battle against ISIS in Iraq

By Avery Haines

Canada’s role in Iraq is called Operation Impact. And today (May 21, 2017) I was invited to visit Camp Canada’s Role 2 medical facility in Irbil, Iraq.

A team of about 50 is set up to treat coalition forces wounded in the battle against ISIS. This is a training exercise I watched today to treat a soldier with a gunshot wound.

All Canadian personnel wore face masks and removed their name tags to protect their identity in the video.

That video can be seen below. Further updates from my time in Iraq will be posted here.

Two Kilometres to Terror: Life and Death Under ISIS, a one-hour documentary from reporter Avery Haines, airs Sunday July 9 at 10 p.m. on CityNews stations across the country.
