Man, 65, charged after suspect shot during attempted home invasion

By The Canadian Press

Police in Hamilton have charged a 65-year-old man who allegedly shot a suspect who was attempting a home invasion on Thursday night.

Police say they were called to a residence on Avondale Street about reports of a shooting, and a man who lived there came out with his hands in the air saying he was the shooter.

The man has been charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon.

In the meantime, officers who were at a local hospital for an unrelated matter saw a man come in indicating he’d been shot.

They determined the 24-year-old man was shot at the Avondale residence while trying to break in and charges against him are pending.
