Driver charged after man, 73, struck and killed at Sherbourne and Dundas

By News Staff

A 73-year-old man has died and a 49-year-old man is in hospital after they were struck by a vehicle in the area of Sherbourne and Dundas streets.

The driver is now facing multiple charges, including driving without a licence.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 7 a.m. on Monday.

According to police, the driver of a Honda was travelling south on Sherbourne when the car jumped the curb and struck one man. The driver then continued and hit the second man.

Police said the vehicle continued south for a short distance before stopping.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was rushed to hospital with a serious leg injury.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

Police say the area is heavily residential and they’re hoping anyone with information will come forward to assist investigators.

“It’s amazing how little bits of information piece things together for investigators. So if anyone has any dashboard, cellphone, business cameras, anything like that or just eye witness accounts … we encourage anyone to come forward,” Moore said.

Jonathan Power, 25, of Toronto, has been charged with dangerous driving cause death, dangerous driving cause bodily harm, and driving without a licence.
