Oakville shooting suspect charged with attempted murder

Halton Regional police have laid attempted murder charges against a Montreal man who was arrested in connection with a brazen daylight shooting in Oakville on Friday.

Police were called to the area of Cornwall and Trafalgar roads around 9:30 a.m.

Witnesses say the victim left the Sunset Grill in the area and soon after, there was some sort of altercation. During the exchange, someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.

A 35-year-old man was transported to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Another witness said they noticed two men in hoodies with bandannas across their faces looking into people’s cars in the parking lot.

Police arrested one of the three suspects on Friday and recovered a pickup truck with Quebec license plates a short distance from the scene of the shooting.

As a result of the investigation so far, Marley Dorphelus, 21, has been charged with attempted murder.

He made a brief court appearance via video on Saturday and has been remanded in custody until August 8.

Police are still searching for the two other suspects.

One suspect is described as black with darker skin. He is approximately six-feet tall and 200 pounds, with a slim build. He was wearing dark, long pants and a dark shirt.

The second suspect is black, between five-foot-nine-inches and five-foot-10-inches tall. His hair was in tight cornrows.
