Man, 34, shot and killed outside Rexdale apartment

Police are searching for as many as four suspects after a 34-year-old Toronto man was gunned down in a Rexdale apartment complex on Saturday night.

Det. Sgt. Paul Worden of the homicide squad says the deceased was returning to his residence on Tandridge Crescent in the area of Elmhurst Drive and Albion Road around 8:45 p.m. when he was ambushed by four individuals.

Worden says numerous shots were fired by all four suspects brandishing hand guns and at least one assault rifle. Some of the bullets struck a nearby apartment.

“We believe (he was targeted), yes. Whether they targeted the correct person we’re not clear on that but they were waiting for this particular individual to come by,” said Worden.

Paramedics arrived and found the man lying on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified him as 34-year-old Awad Hurre.

Worden says there were a number of people in the area at the time of the shooting and they are interested in speaking with those individuals.

No suspect descriptions are available at this time except that police are searching for a silver vehicle, possibly a Toyota Corolla.
