Hydro One, Toronto Hydro sending crews to Florida

Hydro One and Toronto Hydro are sending employees down to Florida to help get the lights back on.

Hydro One said Monday they were sending 175 people.

“Access to electricity can be a lifeline in a disaster and our crews are determined to help restore power to the families and businesses in Florida as quickly and safely as possible,” Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer of Hydro One, said in a statement on Monday.

Crews are expected to arrive in the affected areas on Wednesday afternoon, bringing with them 52 bucket trucks, 30 other vehicles and other equipment.

Hydro One has reciprocal agreements in place with North American utilities to provide assistance during significant power outages, the utility said, and all costs are covered by the utility receiving the help.

“We want to thank our employees in advance for leaving their families to help our neighbours in need. The commitment of our employees to assist during times of crisis is something every Ontarian should be proud of,” Kiraly said.

Toronto Hydro said Tuesday they are sending about 30 people.
