A 49-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon after allegedly driving his vehicle towards a parking enforcement officer.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Friday when a parking enforcement officer was issuing parking tickets in the Dupont Street and Avenue Road area.

Toronto police said a man became verbally aggressive when the officer asked him to move his vehicle, which he refused to do.

The man then allegedly drove his vehicle at a high rate of speed though a school zone and swerved in the direction of the parking enforcement officer.

Mark Hayman, 47, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and driving while under suspension.
