Ultra-low cost airline coming to the GTHA

Flying out of the GTHA is about to get much cheaper as Canada Jetlines announced it will be offering service out of Hamilton, as well as Waterloo.

“We have decided to serve not only one airport in the Toronto metropolitan area but two airports,” Jetlines CEO Stan Gadek said on Monday.

“The reason that we made this decision is because of the very high demand for low fares in this region as well as the amazing population density that we have in the Toronto area.”

Gadek said they will begin flying out of both John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and Region of Waterloo International Airport as of June 1, 2018.

He claims they will offer the lowest fares in Canada.

“How low will those fares go? Well I like to say that it’ll be about the same as a pair of jeans, quite honestly. Now jeans come in all sizes and styles and all prices but these are going to be very affordable jeans,” Gadek said.

Although he wouldn’t be specific, he said flight costs will depend on the time of year and the destination.

The airline will offer basic flight services and passengers will have the option to purchase additional services.

The airline will begin with two 189 seat planes – Boeing 737-800NG – with all-coach configuration and will offer domestic service to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg for a “soft start” of 60 days.

It will then expand the fleet by two aircrafts and increasing destinations to 14 including Halifax, Las Vegas and Orlando.

Gadek said that over a two-year period the airline plans to expand to 12 airplanes and 23 destinations – including the Caribbean and Mexico.

Flight destinations will be seasonal and reflect common travel trends.

“In the summertime we’ll be serving domestic Canada and points in the U.S. In the winter time we’ll be shifting capacity to fly deep south into the Caribbean and Mexico,” Gadek explained.

“Canada gets cold in the wintertime and people want to get out of town and we understand that and realize that and we’re going to be offering them ultra-low fare service to go to the sun destinations that they seek.”
