Hamilton special constable charged with assault

A 38-year-old special constable with the Hamilton Police Service has been charged with assault after an incident at a courthouse.

According to police, the incident happened while the officer was on duty at the John Sopinka Courthouse.

There has been no word on who the victim was and the extent of the injuries.

The part-time officer, whose name has not been released, was arrested on Thursday. He has since been released on a promise to appear with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 17.

Police said the officer has been suspended.
