SIU investigating after Peel police cruiser and taxi collide

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing a crash between a Peel police cruiser and a taxi.

A 30-year-old man, a passenger in the taxi, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The sedan and the van collided at Bovaird Drive and Bramalea Road around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, the SIU said.

The intersection reopened around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Anyone with information, or video of the crash, is asked to contact the SIU.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Correction: A police spokesperson initially said the injuries were minor. The SIU later said the injuries are serious.
