The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in as police continue to search the Leaside area for a suspect who may be armed with a gun.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, police received reports of a person with a gun in the Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Road area.

According to the SIU, police were heading westbound on Eglinton Avenue East when officers attempted to stop a vehicle. The vehicle drove away and a short time later collided into a light standard near Rumsey Road.

The SIU said one of the passengers in the vehicle, a 60-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with a back injury.

One man was arrested at the scene, but a second man fled the area.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The SIU is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
