Man, 22, charged in alleged online airline ticket scam

Police have charged a 22-year-old Toronto man in connection with an alleged online airline ticket scam.

It’s believed he posed as a travel agent using several aliases, including Jack Chen and Jason Wang.

Between June and August, several people bought tickets from him, paying by Interac e-Transfer. The purchases were between $400 and $3,000.

Days after the transaction, the clients would check the airline websites to confirm their bookings, only to find they had been cancelled.

It’s alleged the suspect booked the tickets with a compromised credit card and deposited his clients’ money directly into his own account.

On Tuesday, police arrested Hangfeng Zhang and charged him with two counts of fraud and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

He’s scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.

Police have released Zhang’s photo as they believe other people may have been scammed.
