8 injured after QEW rollover in Burlington

By News Staff

Eight people were injured, one critically, when a minvan rolled over on the QEW in Burlington on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. near Guelph Line. Police said a Toyota Sienna slammed into a guardrail and rolled over several times, leaving a long trail of debris.

Paramedics said three people were ejected from the vehicle. Two landed on the other side of the guardrail, but were not hit by oncoming traffic.

“The road conditions are perfect. They’re dry, the sun is shining, there’s not a cloud in the sky,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt. “Environmental and human factors are going to be things we’re going to be looking into.”

Originally, police said three people had life-threatening injuries and five other occupants were taken to Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington with minor injuries. Now, only one is in critical condition.

All lanes of the Toronto-bound and Fort Erie-bound lanes were closed, but have since reopened.
