1 dead in Hamilton apartment fire

One person has died after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Hamilton.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Hess Street South, in the Queen and Main streets area, around 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
Police said a male was pulled from a unit on the 16th floor without vital signs. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
The fire was contained to a single unit.
The building was evacuated while crews worked to take down the fire.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes just after 3 a.m.
