Dellen Millard and Mark Smich have pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder of Laura Babcock.
It’s believed 23-year-old Toronto woman was murdered on either the 3rd or 4th of July, 2012.
Justice Michael Code told potential jurors that Millard and Smich are accused of murdering Babcock and cremating her body in a large incinerator. That incinerator was later found on a farm property that Millard owned near Kitchener.
She was allegedly killed at Millard’s home in Etobicoke and her body and remains have never been found, said the judge.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
Police said Babcock was romantically involved with Millard and that phone records showed Babcock had contact with Millard before she vanished.
Jury selection will start on Monday and the trial is expected to last 10 weeks.
