Victim identified, 2 arrests made following fatal shooting in Newmarket

York Regional Police have identified the man killed in a shooting in Newmarket on Saturday night.

Police say they were called to the Sheldon Avenue area shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday night, where they found one victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Cody Gionet, 30, from Georgina.

Two suspects have been arrested. No charges have been laid yet and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators say they have been interviewing witnesses and following up on information provided by them.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact the York Regional Police homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.
