Police search for man who allegedly made fake gun call downtown last week

Toronto police are searching for a man who, they say, made a fake gun call downtown last week.

Last Thursday afternoon, King Street was shut down for several hours after police got a call about a man with a gun who had forced someone into a pot dispensary on King near Blue Jays Way.

Police treated the incident as real and followed emergency protocol, but after entering the building and they found no one with a gun.

Investigators believe the man they are looking for called in the fake tip from a payphone near Spadina Avenue and Cecil Street.

Police released security camera images of the man on Monday. Click here to see more photos.

The suspect has a dark complexion, is around 25-35 years old, between five-foot-10 and six-foot-two and has a medium build. At the time, he was wearing glasses, a green camouflage jacket, black pants, black shoes and a black baseball cap. He was carrying a black backpack. He was riding a black vintage-style hybrid bicycle with a black rear mudguard and a wooden rear rack.
