Abandoned TCHC building near Fairview Mall destroyed by fire

Toronto Fire is investigating after a three alarm blaze gutted a Toronto community housing building near Fairview Mall on Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a call at around 7:40 a.m in the Allenbury Gardens and Kingslake Road area.

Capt. Eckerman from the Toronto Fire Service told CityNews that the building was abandoned and fenced off. Flames were visible upon arrival and the fire engulfed the entire building.  There was also heavy smoke in the area, including across portions of Highway 404.

The building appeared to be empty and no one was found after firefighters completed their search of the premises.

No injuries were reported and it is not clear what caused the fire at this time.

The investigation is expected to take a while due to the extent of the damage.
