A man in his 20s is dead following a shooting in Scarborough on Sunday morning.

Toronto police say a man walked into an apartment building on Eglinton Avenue just before 10:30 a.m., made his way up to the third floor where he shot the 21-year-old victim several times.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Malique Ellis, also known as Lil Mell, described on social media as an up-and-coming artist in Toronto’s music scene.

Investigators say they are quite concerned as at least a dozen shots were fired in the hallway of the residential building and that no one else was injured by the stray rounds.

Police say the suspect was in and out of the building in under 10 minutes.

Police are searching for one male suspect who was wearing dark coloured pants and hoodie.

A long time area residents tells 680 News the incident is “shocking.”

“We’ve never had this before and we’ve been in the second building for 35 years. Around in the area maybe but not here.”
