Body parts found in Oshawa basement belong to missing woman

Durham police say the body discovered along with a suspicious package last month in the basement of an Oshawa apartment is that of Rori Hache, who was reported missing back in August 2017.

A fisherman discovered the torso of a woman floating in the water near the Oshawa Harbour back on September 11. While a post mortem failed to determine the exact cause of death, DNA tests later identified the victim as Hache.

On December 30, police were called to a basement apartment on McMillan Drive near Bond and Centre streets, where an unidentified body and a suspicious package was found.

Adam Jeffrey Strong of Oshawa has been charged with improper/indecent interference with a dead body.

Police declined to share any details at the time about the body found including what, if any, relationship existed between the accused and the deceased.

Further investigation has now determined that the body parts found at the house also belonged to Hache.

It’s also been learned Hache frequented The Refuge Youth Outreach Centre which is just two blocks from the basement apartment where the grisly discovery was made.

Strong remains in custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance January 10 where further charges could be laid.

Police tell CityNews that the suspicious package found in the home was a home-made explosive device, similar to a pipe bomb. An explosives robot was brought in and the item was eventually detonated in a controlled explosion.
