A five-year-old girl is dead after she was struck by an unoccupied SUV at an elementary school in the Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area on Monday.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. near St. Raphael Catholic School when the girl was pinned between two vehicles.

Officers say the unoccupied Kia SUV, which may have switched gears, pinned the girl against her father’s Mercedes-Benz.

The child was rushed to hospital via emergency run where she later died of her injuries.

Police say the girl’s father was with her at the time of the crash and went with her to hospital.

Traffic Services is investigating and say they will release more information on Tuesday.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden death of one of our students from St. Raphael Catholic School,” the Toronto Catholic District School said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of this young student.”

“This tragic loss is one that is felt by all of us at the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”

The school board said a team of counsellors would be on hand at the school on Tuesday.
