Mild weekend temperatures to give way to messy Monday commute

By News Staff

A special weather statement has been issued for Toronto, the GTA and most of southern Ontario.

Despite mild temperatures this weekend, Environment Canada is warning that freezing rain is likely for the start of the work week.

Colder easterly winds from a developing Colorado low are expected to intensify which will cause temperatures to drop to near or just below freezing.

“Some inconsequential drizzle or light flurries may be present during the Monday morning commute,” said the national weather service.

“However, a more significant freezing rain threat is becoming increasingly likely during the day Monday. The Monday evening commute may be significantly impacted by icy roads.”

Temperatures this weekend are expected be upwards of seven degrees above the seasonal average.
