Police in New York State have identified a Toronto firefighter who went missing during a ski trip in Lake Placid on Wednesday.

Police said Constantinos “Danny” Filippidis, 49, was last seen on Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (TPFFA) confirmed to CityNews that he was on a ski trip with a group of off-duty and retired firefighters, friends and family.

The group realized he went missing after the ski hills closed after 4 p.m.

Fellow firefighters found his belongings in the lodge and his vehicle was still in the parking lot.

An aerial search was conducted on Thursday morning and a ground search is also underway.

Police say Filippidis is five-foot-10, 220 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a green ski jacket, black helmet and red skis.

He’s been described as an intermediate skier.
