Man found lying in the street with gunshot wound dies in hospital

The homicide unit of the Toronto Police has taken over the investigation after a man who was found lying in the street with gunshot wound last week, died in hospital.

On Thursday, Toronto police were called to Burbank Drive near Bayview and Finch avenues around 11:15 p.m.

It was reported that two men were parked in an SUV when one was thrown out of the vehicle.

Police said a black SUV was reportedly seen fleeing the scene.

Investigators have identified the SUV as a black 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee with licence plate CADN 350.

When emergency crews arrived on scene they found 36-year-old Isahq Omar suffering life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Police said Omar, who is from Toronto, has ties to the Regina and Vancouver areas.

The suspect has been described as black or brown, tall, thin build.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who had contact with the victim or may have video or dashcam images and have not already spoken to officers.
