Man charged with first-degree murder in Bathurst and St. Clair assault

A 35-year-old Toronto man has been charged with first-degree murder after an assault in the Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue area on Monday.

Police were called to the scene just before midnight after reports a man was being assaulted by another man.

When police arrived on scene they found the victim lying on the ground with signs of trauma. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

Terrance Coughlin, 59, was later pronounced dead in hospital.

No details have been released on what prompted the assault or the relationship between the two men.

On Wednesday, police issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Curtis Ashley Wheatley. A short time later Wheatley was arrested and charged with murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
