Durham Police have laid charges against two of three suspects following a high-speed chase on Highway 401 near Bowmanville Monday afternoon.
Police were searching for three suspects after an armed robbery at a Scotiabank around 1:30 p.m. on Clarington Boulevard and Regional Road 2.
A suspect vehicle with three occupants was located and police followed it as it fled along the Highway 401 West, OPP told 680 NEWS.
In a release, police say they were able to stop the suspect vehicle and box it in, but the suspects attempted to escape by striking the police cruisers. At one point, an officer discharged his firearm as the suspect vehicle drove towards him.
Police say the suspect vehicle then managed to break free and continued westbound down the 401 for a short while before losing control and landing in a ditch just east of the Salem Road off ramp in Ajax.
The three suspects then fled into a wooded area on foot.
At around 4:30 p.m., officers found two of the suspects hiding in a residential neighbourhood near Miles Drive and Wicks Drive in Ajax. An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested.
They are both facing multiple charges including robbery with a firearm; disguise with intent; possession of dangerous weapons, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Police are still looking for the third suspect. He is described as a black male, around 6-feet tall with a thin build.
Two firearms were located following the chase — a handgun was located in the suspect vehicle and a replica firearm was found near the on ramp of Highway 401 at Stevenson Road in Oshawa.
No police officers or citizens were injured.
