Fire breaks out at Burlington recycling plant

A Burlington recycling plant has been evacuated after a fire broke out on the property.

Fire crews responded to reports of a fire and heavy black smoke coming from Waxman’s Industrial Service on Harvester Road in the Walker’s Line and QEW area around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Halton regional police told 680 NEWS that workers were using cutting tools to take apart a car when fuel inside the vehicle ignited.

680 NEWS traffic specialist and pilot Darryl Dahmer flew over the scene as fire fighters doused the flames from ladder trucks.

In a video submitted by CityNews viewer Colin Rose, heavy smoke is seen billowing from the area.

Photos and videos on social media also show rolling flames and thick black smoke rising from a scrap pile.

No injuries were reported and Metrolinx says GO transit service in the area was not affected.
