A 45-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash in Brampton.

The woman was crossing at Bramalea Road and Steeles Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle just after 10 p.m. on Monday.

She was crossing from the south side of Steeles to the north side at a crosswalk on a green light, but the light turned red before she got across. The woman was hit by a westbound vehicle and landed on the sidwalk.

Police have identified the victim as Linda Prakash from Brampton.

The driver did not remain on the scene but left behind some pieces of the vehicle. Peel police say they are looking for a black four-door Honda or Mazda that has damage to the passenger side of the car including damage to the passenger side mirror.

Investigators say they have recovered surveillance video and are confident they will be able to identify the vehicle and driver.

Meanwhile, police are also hoping to speak to the drivers of two other vehicles at the intersection who may or may not have known what happened.

Anyone else who may have witnessed or have video of the incident is also being asked to contact police.
