One person found dead in Markham fire

York regional police are investigating after a fire in Markham left one person dead.

Markham fire was called to the scene around 8 a.m. to a home on Ninth Line, near Bur Oak Avenue. One person was found inside and pronounced dead on the scene.

The person hasn’t been identified as next of kin has yet to be notified.

Officers say the investigation is ongoing and they are asking witnesses to come forward.

Police have not indicated if the fire has been deemed suspicious, but their Criminal Investigations Bureau is working in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshall to determine the cause of the blaze.
