Police looking for driver after cyclist killed in Whitchurch-Stouffville

York regional police are searching for the driver after a cyclist was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Whitchurch-Stouffville on Tuesday morning.

A passerby saw the cyclist on the road near Ninth Line and Bethesda Sideroad around 6 a.m. and called police. The driver who had hit the cyclist was gone.

The cyclist, a 20-year-old man from Whitchurch-Stouffville, died at the scene. On Wednesday, police identified him as Daunte Thompson-Bruce.

Police believe the victim was riding south on Ninth Line when he was struck at some point between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Investigators are asking for anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident, or may have dashcam video of the crash to contact them.

Thompson-Bruce was riding a dark green SuperCycle Hooligan mountain bike with yellow in spots. Police released a photo of the bicycle similar to the one he was riding.
