2 suspects charged with first-degree murder in Annex death

Police have laid charges against two suspects in the death of a 21-year-old woman following an incident in an Annex area apartment on Wednesday.

Police were called to 70 Spadina Road near Kendal Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. following reports of gunshots.

Investigators say Abbegail Elliott of Toronto was found inside an apartment suffering from obvious signs of trauma. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Investigators believe Elliott was targeted and that the attack is linked to another incident at the same apartment building on May 21, where shots were fired at the building. Police are asking anyone that may have video of a fight that took at the building that day between the victim and the suspects to contact police.

Two suspects seen running from the building on Wednesday have been identified as Saria Lopez Iglesias, 26 and David Obregon Castro, 25 of Toronto. They have both been arrested and charged with one count each of first-degree murder.

Castro is facing additional charges in connection with an incident on May 11, where police responded to a call for a shooting in the Richardson Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West area.

He is charged with five more counts including attempted murder, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Both suspects appeared in court on Saturday morning.
