A 15-year-old girl has been charged after her newborn baby’s lifeless body was found in her Brampton home, investigators said Sunday.

Peel Regional Police were called in to investigate on Friday after the girl, who gave birth on Tuesday, went to the hospital following the incident, they said.

The teen has since been charged with indignity to a dead body and concealing the body of a child.

“She did not disclose any of the information with regards to the delivery,” said Const. Bancroft Wright, a police spokesman.

“An investigation ensued and located the body of the newborn in a residential area in Brampton,” he said. “As a result, investigators have arrested the female.”

Police said the homicide bureau is investigating the incident, but noted that the child’s death has not been classified as a homicide.

Wright said police have not yet established how the baby died and are waiting for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

Investigators said the girl, whose cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in court for a bail hearing on Saturday.
