Toronto EMS says one woman in her 30s has been taken to hospital without vital signs following an apartment fire in Scarborough.

Fire crews were called to the scene around 11 a.m. on Sunday to a 2nd-floor apartment blaze at Bellamy Road and Cedar Brae Boulevard.

Toronto police say they heard reports there had been an explosion.

The woman who was injured has been taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Fire Chief Matthew Pegg says he expects the Ontario Fire Marshall will be called to investigate the cause.
