Dozens of Terry Fox runs held across the GTA

By Casey Taylor

Dozens of Terry Fox runs will be held across the GTA on Sunday.

In total, over 200 events are raising money for cancer research in Ontario, inspired by Fox’s legacy.

A few short years after being diagnosed with cancer and having his right leg amputated, Terry Fox decided to run across Canada.

In a letter to the Canadian Cancer Society Fox wrote “I’m not a dreamer and I’m not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles.”

Terry Fox started his journey in Newfoundland and after 143 days and more than 5000 kilometres, he stopped running near Thunder Bay after his cancer spread to his lungs. He died a year later.

Fox’s Marathon of Hope has raised more than $750 million for cancer research to date.
