SIU investigates after man falls from Hwy. 401 in North York

By News staff

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a man fell to his death from an elevated portion of Highway 401 in North York.

The SIU said 911 received several calls of a man walking on the eastbound collector lanes between Avenue Road and Yonge Street just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the SIU, after an interaction with an OPP officer, the man ran northbound across four lanes of traffic.

He then fell from the bridge and onto the grounds of Don Valley golf course below.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The SIU said the man fell through an open separation between the 401 collectors and express.

The eastbound collector lanes were closed from Yonge Street to Bayview Avenue, but have since reopened.
